Question: Which class of fast battleships does the USS Wisconsin belong to?
Answer: The USS Wisconsin (BB-64) is an Iowa-class battleship, the Navy’s second ship named for a state. These were the last and largest battleships built by the U.S. Navy, designed in the late 1930s for high speed (over 30 knots) to escort aircraft carriers while packing heavy 16-inch guns. Commissioned in 1944, she served in World War II, Korea, and Desert Storm, earning five World War II battle stars plus additional honors. She’s now berthed at Nauticus in Norfolk as a museum ship.
