Question: Which state supplied the elk used to restore Virginia’s herd?

Answer: The elk were relocated from southeast Kentucky to Buchanan County, Virginia. Elk were once native across eastern North America, including Virginia, but unsustainable hunting and habitat loss wiped out the eastern elk. The last of Virginia’s original herd was killed in Clarke County.
