Article Icon 1Hegseth Summons Military General Officers

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will reportedly gather all military officers with a one-star or higher rank at an in-person meeting at Quantico on Tuesday. Roughly 800 generals and admirals would leave their commands around the globe to travel to Virginia.

As of Thursday, the Pentagon had not publicly explained the reason for the reported in-person gathering. The military frequently convenes secure, virtual meetings so commanders can discuss missions without physically leaving their posts.

Hegseth has said he aims to trim one-fifth of the U.S. senior generals and admirals.

The Trump administration has already removed many senior military leaders, including former Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Gen. CQ Brown, Navy Chief of Staff Adm. Lisa Franchetti, Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Linda Fagan, and Air Force Vice Chief of Staff Gen. James Slife.

Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced he will donate $100,000 to Turning Point USA during an appearance at Virginia Tech. He also told students that “each one of you is the next Charlie Kirk.”

More than 3,000 people turned out for the Wednesday night TPUSA event, which had been a scheduled stop on Kirk’s American Comeback Tour before the Christian conservative activist was assassinated in Utah on Sept. 10.

There is a revival spreading across this great nation,” Youngkin said. “Don’t back down from your beliefs.

Political commentator Megyn Kelly also spoke at the event, which drew people from as far away as Ohio, West Virginia, and North Carolina.

Article Icon 1Tax Refunds Go Out Next Month

Virginia taxpayers who owed money to the state last year will get refunds starting in mid-October.

Individual taxpayers are eligible for rebates of up to $200, while joint filers are eligible for up to $400. The funds will be disbursed according to how taxpayers paid.

If payments were made by direct deposit, the rebate would be put into the same bank account used for that transaction. All other eligible taxpayers will be mailed a paper check.
