The Virginia Flyover - McAfee Knob - Appalachian Trail

Question: How many U.S. states are named after kings or queens?

Answer: Seven, including Virginia and West Virginia (Queen Elizabeth I). The rest are North and South Carolina (King Charles I), Georgia (King George II), Louisiana (King Louis XIV), and Maryland (Henrietta Maria, queen consort of Charles I). Honorable mention should go to New York. It was named after the Duke of York, who eventually was crowned King James II.
