Question: Who is Goochland County named for?

Answer: Sir William Gooch. He arrived in Virginia in 1727 to serve as Royal Lieutenant Governor. The new county included land from Tuckahoe Creek on both sides of the James River and stretched to the Blue Ridge Mountains.
