Article Icon 1Comey and James Cases Dismissed

A federal judge ruled that Lindsey Halligan was not legally appointed as the interim U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, since federal law allows only a single, 120-day interim pick. Erik Siebert, who resigned under pressure from Donald Trump in September, had already served out that term.

Senior U.S. District Judge Cameron Currie dismissed criminal cases Halligan had brought against James Comey and Letitia James. Halligan was the only federal prosecutor to sign indictments against the pair, as career prosecutors in the office had previously declined to press charges.

All actions flowing from Ms. Halligan’s defective appointment, including securing and signing Mr. Comey’s indictment, were unlawful exercises of executive power and are hereby set aside,” Currie wrote. She dismissed the charges without prejudice, however, so the cases could potentially be refiled.

The White House promised to keep the cases alive. “The facts of the indictments against Comey and James have not changed, and this will not be the final word on this matter,” a spokesperson said.

The Virginia State Police officially listed Union High School head football coach Travis Turner as a missing person, and were using drones and dogs to search for him. Turner was last seen on Thursday wearing a gray sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and glasses.

State police officers were sent to Turner’s residence in Appalachia on Thursday as part of an investigation. They were not seeking to arrest him at that time.

Turner works in the Wise County School system, which noted thata staff member has been placed on administrative leave with pay while an external agency reviews an allegation that was reported to us.”

Turner has coached at Union High since 2011. In his absence, his undefeated team beat Graham 12-0 in the state football tournament to advance to this Saturday’s region finals.

Article Icon 1Democrats Unveil 2026 Plans

Democrats announced they will move quickly to enact legislation when the new Assembly is sworn in next year. The party picked up 13 seats in the House of Delegates, while Abigail Spanberger was elected as the first female governor.

For her part, Spanberger promised to fill vacancies on the governing boards of three Virginia colleges and universities on her first day in office. A state court blocked 22 of Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s appointees after Senate Democrats objected to them.

Lawmakers said the first bill they will file is a measure to increase Virginia’s minimum wage to $15 per hour. On the campaign trail, Spanberger said she would sign such a measure.

Democrats also said they will consider bills to require employers to provide paid sick leave, establish the right to birth control, and create a task force to identify why low-income households struggle to apply for existing energy efficiency or weatherization programs.

Children are hungry. Let’s change that.

Food.

For those of us who have enough, it’s an easy need to fill. But millions of children go hungry. Their bodies can’t develop, much less their minds. They need a miracle.

You can be their miracle. Your compassionate gift of $30 brings a nutritious meal to three children every school day for one month.

Anita knew hunger firsthand. She loves to sing and aspires to a career in the music industry. She wants to do well in school, but hunger used to distract her and hold her back. That was before Convoy of Hope came to her village in Nepal.

“My family and I didn’t trust outside organizations, because they would leave after a short period of time,” Anita remembers. “But Convoy has done so much. They didn’t just give us food; they taught us to grow it ourselves.”

Many children are going to bed hungry tonight.

But you can change that.

You give. Convoy delivers. And hundreds of thousands of children are fed.
