Article Icon 1Primary Voting Is Today

Today is primary day in Virginia for all eligible voters who did not cast a ballot during the early voting period. Registered voters can choose to participate in either the Republican or Democratic primary.

There are no Republican statewide races on the ballot. Democrats have selected their candidate for governor and will allow voters to select their lieutenant governor and attorney general nominees.

Polling places statewide opened at 6:00 a.m. and will remain available until 7:00 p.m. Anyone in line at closing time will be allowed to cast a ballot.

For the first time in years, Democrats will run a candidate in each House race. Several of those candidates will be determined today.

Article Icon 1Authorities Bar Unsanctioned Events

Virginia Beach police said they will not allow several planned events to take place this week because the organizers did not get the proper permits.

The controversial events, which were advertised in a flyer as “Beach Sweek Virginia Beach,” were scheduled from today until next Tuesday.

Police said they had contacted organizers but did not hear back. They added that they would attempt to recover any costs they incur while protecting “unsanctioned, non-permitted events.”

Gov. Glenn Youngkin and other state officials traveled to Europe for a trade delegation aimed at increasing business ties, attracting investment, and promoting the state’s workforce.

The group plans to attend the annual Paris Air Show to meet with aerospace executives. “This trade mission is an opportunity to showcase our best-in-class workforce, business-friendly environment, and proven economic development expertise,Youngkin wrote in a statement.

The delegation also plans to stop in London, where the governor will rededicate a statue of George Washington that stands in Trafalgar Square.
