Virginia Sends Rescuers to Texas

A pair of swift water rescue teams, one from Bristol and the other from Virginia Beach, were deployed to Texas to help with flood recovery efforts there.

“We stand in solidarity with the people of Texas, and we are committed to offering any and all support requested during this critical time,” Gov. Glenn Youngkin said.

Virginia maintains about 30 teams with specialized equipment and training to respond to water rescue missions. This is the fifth time the Virginia Beach team has deployed since it was put together in 2022.

Flash flood watches remain in effect in parts of Texas, with more rain in the forecast.

Chantal Brings Rain to Virginia

The remnants of Tropical Storm Chantal crossed Virginia as a tropical depression, bringing heavy rain and flood risks in Central Virginia and the Northern Neck.

The storm was downgraded after it hit South Carolina on Sunday. Yesterday, it moved east-northeast, entering Virginia near Danville and pushing up toward Maryland and Delaware.

Lifeguards at Virginia Beach raised red flags to indicate treacherous waters. Swimmers were advised to avoid going more than waist-deep.

Sting Nets Suspected Predators

Fairfax County police arrested 16 men as part of Operation Caught in the Web, an online sting aimed at apprehending suspects seeking criminal encounters with children.

Police said the suspects traveled to the county to commit sexual acts with minors but were met instead by detectives who had been posing as children online.

The suspects range in age from 20 to 65 and face a total of 82 felony charges. The investigation is ongoing.
