Charges Filed in Danville Attack

Police charged 29-year-old Shotsie Hayes with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated malicious wounding after he allegedly attacked Danville City Councilman Lee Vogler.

Vogler was doused with flammable liquid inside his office at Showcase Magazine and set on fire as he tried to flee outside. He was airlifted to a burn unit. His current condition is unknown.

The police said in a statement that “the victim and the suspect are known to each other and the attack stems from a personal matter not related to the victim’s position on Danville City Council.”

Vogler is the managing partner for Andrew Brooks Media Group and has served on the city council since 2012.

Earle-Sears Still Confident 

Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears said she remains confident she will be governor even though she trails Democratic candidate Abigail Spanberger by 12 points in the most recent poll and raised nearly $5 million less than her opponent in the second quarter.

“My opponent believes in one way only: whatever the far-left tells her,” Earle-Sears told a political site. “That’s not freedom. That’s not the American Dream.”

Gov. Glenn Youngkin also expressed confidence this week. “Winsome Earle-Sears is going to continue to drive the acceleration of the Commonwealth of Virginia,” the term-limited governor said.

Earle-Sears added that she has been visiting health care facilities across the state to discuss the changes that are coming under President Trump’s recently passed spending bill. Spanberger opposed that measure.

Man Drowns at Virginia Beach

Two visitors to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront said they pulled a drowning man from the water and attempted to give him CPR, but they were not able to revive him.

The victim apparently fell off a surfboard yesterday morning, perhaps after he suffered a medical emergency.

The man has not been identified, and police are still investigating.
