Article Icon 1Virginia Weighing More Casinos

The Commonwealth’s latest casino is set to open today at 5 p.m., when Live Casino Virginia’s temporary location in Petersburg debuts. A permanent building is scheduled to open late next year.

Currently, casinos can be found in Bristol, Danville, Norfolk, and Portsmouth, with at least two other proposals in the works.

Local leaders in Roanoke have expressed interest in a casino, but representatives in Richmond oppose the idea. The city is hoping to get approval without following the same procedures as other Virginia locations.

In Fairfax County, Sen. Scott Surovell reintroduced a bill to allow a referendum on whether to build a casino in Tysons. The Board of Supervisors voted last month to oppose a casino in the county.

Lawmakers in both houses are considering proposals that would create a Gaming Commission to oversee wagering in the state.

Article Icon 1Halligan Resigns as U.S. Attorney

Lindsey Halligan resigned as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia almost two months after a federal judge ruled she had been “unlawfully appointed in violation of 28 U.S.C. § 546 and the Constitution’s Appointments Clause.”

Ahead of her resignation announcement, the chief judge for the district posted a job opening for an interim U.S. attorney and said that Halligan “may not serve” in the position. The court has the authority to appoint an interim pick until the Senate votes for a permanent selection.

Halligan, who had no experience as a prosecutor, was appointed in September and obtained indictments against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James. Those indictments have been dismissed by judges.

Her departure is a significant loss for the Department of Justice and the communities she served,” Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote. “While we will feel her absence keenly, we are confident that she will continue to serve her country in other ways.”

Article Icon 1Puppy Bowl Places Rescue Dogs

The Puppy Bowl, which will air on the same day as the Super Bowl, has already made winners out of some dogs from Virginia.

Operation Paws for Homes (OPH), based in Alexandria, placed four canines in the competition and—spoiler alert—two are already adopted and living with families in Virginia.

Being part of the Puppy Bowl has been a great way to get the word out about Operation Paws for Homes and the many adoptable dogs we have available, both puppies and adult dogs,” a volunteer with the organization said.

This is the 11th time dogs from OPH have taken part in the Puppy Bowl. The group saves around 1,000 dogs per year.

This Painful Thing Still Happens 10M Times a Year?

5M people have their wisdom teeth painfully yanked every year.

These surgeries cost ~$5B combined, take months to fully heal, and often carry painful complications. So imagine how valuable a company that invented a painless, 90-second alternative would be.

That’s TriAgenics’ story. Their proactive approach stops wisdom teeth from ever forming in children aged 6-12. It’s designed to be non-invasive, allowing children to eat, play, or return to school immediately afterwards.

Parents say goodbye to missed responsibilities and prolonged recoveries. Dentists say hello to revenue previously lost to outsourced extractions. And early-stage investors can share in the growth at a critical stage, before FDA clearance.

By 2030, TriAgenics aims to make this treatment the new standard of care. Get up to 10% bonus stock as a TriAgenics investor before Feb. 3.
