Former Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax killed his wife and then himself at their Annandale home, police said. They were living together but were in the process of obtaining a divorce.

The couple’s two children were in the house at the time of the shootings but were not injured. A teenage son alerted authorities.

Cerina Fairfax was a dentist who ran her own practice. She had filed for divorce and installed cameras throughout the home, which authorities used to piece together the chain of events.

Justin Fairfax was elected lieutenant governor in 2017. During his term, he was accused of sexual assaults dating to 2000 and 2004, which he denied. He had been working as a lawyer since leaving public service.

Article Icon 1Early Voting Ends Tomorrow

Early voting ends tomorrow for Tuesday’s referendum on whether to amend the constitution to allow congressional redistricting ahead of the November elections. More than a million ballots have been cast, according to the Virginia Public Access Project.

If voters approve the change, Democrats will redraw the state’s 11 congressional districts to give themselves an advantage in 10 of them. A number of Democrats, including Olivia Troye, Dorothy McAuliffe, and former federal prosecutor J.P. Cooney, have announced they will run in the yet-to-be-created districts should the measure pass.

The campaigns are being funded almost entirely by dark money. Nearly $76 million of the $79 million spent so far has come from groups that don’t have to disclose their donors.

The most recent poll from George Mason University found that 53% of respondents plan to vote yes, while 44% said they would vote no. The poll also indicated that almost 60% of registered voters will cast a ballot.

Article Icon 1Tourism Plan Unveiled

Gov. Abigail Spanberger introduced Virginia’s Statewide Strategic Tourism Plan for the next four years. “Tourism is a critical economic driver for Virginia,” she announced. “This strategic plan provides a clear roadmap to compete in today’s evolving travel market.

The updated plan includes input from more than 2,000 stakeholders and looked at hundreds of tourism assets across all 11 tourism regions. The aim is to target government investments into areas that need support, and to improve coordination among state, regional, and local partners.

Destinations that invest strategically and align their efforts are the ones that win more visitors,” Virginia Tourism Corp. President and CEO Rita McClenny said.

Regional plans are scheduled to be released next Wednesday.

The AI Bottleneck is No Longer Chips, It’s Electricity

The biggest names in tech are converging on Texas, as Oracle, Google, Amazon, and Meta all build massive AI data centers.

This year, they’ll break ground on a project set to supply enough energy to power 3M homes. By 2028, they plan to scale capacity 3X+.

They’ve already turned down multiple acquisition offers. Don’t wait to join. Share in American PowerGen’s growth as an early-stage investor today to unlock guaranteed bonus stock.
