Article Icon 1HUD Moving to Virginia

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will relocate 2,700 employees from its troubled D.C. building to Alexandria, forcing the National Science Foundation (NSF) to move its 1,800 employees out of its headquarters building.

This is about the HUD employees, to have a safe space, to have a nice place to work, to represent the people that we serve in America,” HUD Secretary Scott Turner said. Both moves are expected to happen soon.

Gov. Glenn Youngkin joined Turner to announce the relocation. Before their news conference, dozens of NSF employees protested at the site, yelling “We won’t go!” and chanting “NSF.”

It’s not clear where the NSF employees will work, but the commissioner of the General Services Administration’s Public Building Service said his team is “committed to helping them continue to fulfill their mission.”

Article Icon 1Lawsuit Seeks to Block Board Appointments

Nine Virginia Senate Democrats filed a lawsuit seeking to block some of Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s appointments to serve on the boards of three state universities.

The lawsuit was filed in Fairfax County Court and cites language in the state constitution that says that no gubernatorial appointee “shall enter upon, or continue in, office after the General Assembly shall have refused to confirm his appointment.”

Earlier this month, the Senate Privileges and Elections Committee voted 8-4 to reject eight nominations to the boards of the University of Virginia, George Mason, and the Virginia Military Institute.

Attorney General Jason Miyares said the appointments are legal and should be allowed to stand until the legislature reconvenes next year.
