Spanberger Seeks Input on Energy Plan

Gov. Abigail Spanberger’s administration will hold a public meeting in Petersburg at 5:30 p.m. this evening to gather resident input on Virginia’s next 10-year energy plan.

State law requires a fresh plan every four years, mapping how the commonwealth meets rising demand and its 2045 net-zero target. Chief Energy Officer Josephus Allmond calls it a roadmap covering every sector.

Spanberger has backed an “all of the above” strategy spanning solar, wind, small modular nuclear reactors, and natural gas when needed, and she returned Virginia to the multi-state Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, effective July 1.

The final 2026 plan is due Oct. 1.

5th District Primaries Set for Tuesday

Virginia’s 5th Congressional District holds primaries in both parties tomorrow, the only U.S. House seat in the state with a contest on each side.

Republican incumbent Rep. John McGuire faces Melanie Lucero, a Marine veteran and Louisa County real estate agent who says McGuire is a “puppet” who’s there “because he’s a placeholder.” McGuire, a Trump ally on the House Armed Services and Oversight committees, has stepped up appearances across the district.

Three Democrats are running: former Rep. Tom Perriello, the last Democrat to hold the seat; Louisa County writer Robert Tracinski; and Lynchburg physician Suzanne Krzyzanowski. Perriello is the field’s frontrunner.

The sprawling district runs from Charlottesville south through Lynchburg and Danville to the North Carolina line. Analysts rate it Republican-leaning. Winners advance to November’s general election.

Search Continues for Chesterfield Shooting Suspect

Virginia State Police continue searching for Dennikia Boyce, 37, wanted in the July 24 shooting deaths of two VDOT contractors in Chesterfield County.

Rai’Shon DeLarge, 30, and Philip Wilson, 34, both of Emporia, were shot at a VDOT equipment yard near Routes 1 and 288. One died at the scene; the other later at a hospital.

Authorities say the case appears domestic-related, as Boyce knew at least one victim. New photos of the suspect, described as a black woman about 5-foot-6 and 160 pounds, have been released to aid the manhunt involving state, local and federal partners.

Police urge anyone who sees Boyce not to approach her and to call 911 immediately. Tips can also be directed to Virginia State Police.
