NICU Nurse Faces Felony Charges

A 26-year-old former NICU nurse at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital in Richmond was booked last week on charges of malicious wounding and felony child abuse.

Erin Strotman’s arrest came one week after the hospital announced it would temporarily stop admitting babies to its neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Last month, the hospital disclosed that three babies had suffered “unexplainable fractures” discovered between late November and December. This followed four similar incidents reported in 2023.

The current charges against Strotman stem from a single case in November. Authorities say she was working at the hospital when all the incidents under investigation occurred. Strotman is no longer employed at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital.

Winter Sweeps Across Virginia

Gov. Glenn Youngkin declared a state of emergency in the Commonwealth ahead of a major winter storm that is pushing through today.

Most of the state is under a winter storm warning until tomorrow morning, while southern Virginia is under a winter weather advisory.

Heavy snow moved into Southwest Virginia on Sunday afternoon, hours sooner than forecasters had predicted, with several inches piling up quickly.

Authorities warned people to “stay at home” as the snow accumulated. The National Weather Service forecast that Northern Virginia could get a foot of snow before the storm passes tomorrow.

Commanders Head into Playoffs with a Win

The Washington Commanders pulled out a patented late-game victory in Dallas, scoring the winning touchdown with just three seconds left to finish the year at 12-5.

Backup QB Marcus Mariota led the team in the second half as Rookie of the Year candidate Jayden Daniels sat out to get ready for next week’s road playoff game.

Washington trailed by three when it took the ball for the final time. Mariota capped the drive when he found Terry McLaurin in the back of the end zone. The wide receiver’s 13th TD catch of the year sealed the team’s 23-19 win.

The Commanders earned the sixth seed in the NFL playoffs and will visit the Tampa Bay Bucs next weekend. It’s the franchise’s first 12-win season since 1991, when they won the Super Bowl.
