Article Icon 1Poor Air Quality Disrupts State

Smoke from Canadian wildfires continued to blanket much of Virginia on Friday, worsening air quality across the state and prompting closures and cancellations.

Richmond was upgraded to a Code Purple air quality alert, classified as very unhealthy, prompting a wave of cancellations on Friday as the city closed its outdoor pools, scrapped a Dogwood Dell performance, and several state parks suspended boat rentals and outdoor programs.

In Northern Virginia, a Code Purple air quality advisory was also issued for the Washington region on Friday, with Alexandria closing all of its outdoor pools.

All outdoor school activities were canceled in Fairfax County, and solid waste collection services were suspended for the day.

Gov. Abigail Spanberger visited Smith Mountain Lake on Thursday to urge Virginians to conserve water as worsening drought conditions impact much of the state.

Joined by state and local officials, water managers, and agricultural leaders, Spanberger said voluntary conservation remains the preferred approach but warned mandatory restrictions may be needed if conditions worsen.

“We are in the second driest water year on record,” said Spanberger. “Wells are at record daily lows. Smith Mountain Lake is 5.5 feet down, and the soil moisture remains well below normal.”

The visit came after a drought emergency was recommended for the Roanoke Drought Evaluation Region, which received only 57% of its expected rainfall so far in 2026.

CoStar Group opened its $460 million Foundry Park campus in downtown Richmond this week along the James River, topped by an AI-generated video display.

The display, called Living Architecture, was created by Refik Anadol, whose work has appeared on the Las Vegas Sphere and at Manhattan’s Museum of Modern Art.

The three-building complex spans more than 2 million square feet and can hold up to 4,000 workers. The campus is anchored by a 21-story tower attached to the company’s existing offices on South Fifth Street.

The opening follows two rounds of recent layoffs at the company, which occurred earlier this year and in 2025.

California Surgeon: “Muscle Loss in Seniors is Real, But It Doesn’t Have to Be”

If you think collagen is only for supporting healthier skin, hair, and nails, think again.

Not only does it play a role in holding the teeth in your mouth, keeping your heart walls intact, and reinforcing your gut lining…

It’s also what allows you to enjoy your favorite outdoor activities without getting tired.

But unfortunately, eating more collagen isn’t the answer.

That’s why Dr. Steven Gundry has created what he calls the “collagen reset technique.”

And to his knowledge, it’s the only technique that’s designed to help your body build its own collagen.

The muscle-loss warning sign hiding in plain sight

If you feel like your grip strength is getting weaker…

These are early warning signs of “age-related progressive muscle loss” — one of the biggest predictors of frailty and falls among seniors.

There’s one protein most people over 40 lose faster than their bodies can replace.

A former chief of surgery uncovered an at-home “reset technique” to help your body replenish this protein on its own.
