Question: What Richmond hotel once hosted alligators?

Answer: The Jefferson Hotel. At the turn of the 20th Century, visitors to Florida often purchased baby alligators as pets. Many of those reptiles were abandoned as people drove north, and some came to live in the hotel’s Palm Court. The last such gator was Old Pompey, which passed away in 1948.
