Article Icon 1Fairfax County Projects Big Deficit

Fairfax County leaders expect a $131 million budget shortfall in fiscal year 2027.

They anticipate bringing in an additional $225.5 million in new revenue next year, but this wouldn’t be enough to fund the planned growth in both the school system and the broader county government.

The forecast is subject to change as the planning process moves forward. “None of the revenue estimates we’re talking about … is guaranteed,” said Christina Jackson, the county’s chief financial officer.

More details will be available after the school superintendent presents a proposed budget on January 22 and the county executive presents a draft budget on February 17.

Article Icon 1Contractor Accused of Illegal Employment

Four people were indicted last month on charges that they employed undocumented immigrants, including children, at a poultry-processing plant in Accomack County.

The suspects worked for Fayette Industrial Service, a contractor that provided cleaning services at the facility over a period of three years.

The indictment alleges that Fayette employees at the Perdue poultry plant “overwhelmingly used fraudulent documents for their employment.”

Fayette reached an agreement with the federal government last year to pay $649,000 in penalties after allegations it had violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by employing children.

A fast-moving storm covered much of the Commonwealth with several inches of snow yesterday.

Ahead of the system, Virginia Department of Transportation crews pretreated roads across Southwest Virginia. VDOT said it sends out plows once about two inches of snow has fallen.

A winter weather advisory was in effect until last night, with temperatures expected to plunge as the storm moved off. Warmer weather is forecast for the rest of the week.

Who loves this more than parents? Investors.

A safer alternative to wisdom tooth removal is a parent’s dream come true.

No more chubby cheeks, missing school or work, or risks of complications.

However, with the market for wisdom tooth extraction worth $5 billion, investors are even more excited about the company making this dream a reality.

Meet TriAgenics. Their proprietary tech uses targeted heat to prevent wisdom teeth from ever forming. After ~1 minute per tooth, children can immediately eat, play, or return to school with no fear of pain.

And it’s not just a win for parents. Dentists unlock revenue they previously had to outsource to oral surgeons.

Next up? FDA clearance. TriAgenics’ goal is to make its revolutionary treatment the new standard of care by 2030. Become an early-stage investor today.
