Virginia Tech has appointed Brian White as its new vice president and director of athletics, the university announced Monday. White, who spent eight years leading Florida Atlantic’s athletics program, succeeds Whit Babcock, who is retiring after 12 years at the helm.

White brings extensive experience in revenue generation, conference realignment, and program building. At FAU, he oversaw significant growth, including the men’s basketball team’s 2023 Final Four run, 26 NCAA postseason and bowl appearances, and record fundraising exceeding $26 million in a single year.

University President Tim Sands praised White’s strategic vision and leadership for navigating the evolving college sports landscape.

White begins his role today with an introductory press conference. He expressed excitement about partnering with Coach James Franklin and elevating Hokie Nation’s 22 sports to championship levels.

The Washington Wizards selected BYU forward AJ Dybantsa with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft last night in Brooklyn, New York. The 6-foot-9 wing, who averaged 25.5 points per game as a freshman, was the consensus top prospect entering the draft.

The selection gives the Wizards an immediate high-upside talent. Dybantsa’s ability as a three-level scorer, shot-creator, and playmaker provides a foundational piece to pair with their current core of Alex Sarr, Anthony Davis, and Trae Young. See Highlights.

It’s the third time the Wizards have had the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft since the common draft era began in 1966. They previously selected Kwame Brown (2001) and John Wall (2010) with the first overall pick.

Article Icon 1Lawmakers Weigh Merging NoVA Transit

Virginia lawmakers are advancing a proposal to study the merger of several Northern Virginia transit agencies to achieve cost savings and improve service efficiency.

The initiative, included in the recently passed two-year budget, directs the Department of Rail and Public Transportation to evaluate consolidating systems like DASH, Fairfax Connector, ART, and CUE. The study will examine financial impacts, fare structures, service reliability, and rider accessibility while gathering community input.

Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell, D-34, highlighted the inefficiencies of fragmented local bus systems, noting that a unified approach under the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority existed before 1980.

The effort aligns with broader pushes for sustainable transit funding, as lawmakers also weigh new taxes—including sales, gas, or tolls—to cover Metro shortfalls that could reach $150 million annually for the state by Fiscal Year 2028. The report is due by Dec. 15.

“Cobots” Are Transforming This $1T Market

They’re not replacing humans; they’re working with them. That’s the promise of “cobots,” or collaborative robots.

In a robotics market NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang called “one of the largest industries ever,” the cobot segment is projected to grow 15X by 2035.

And Miso Robotics is proving its value in the $1T fast-food industry.

Their Flippy fry station AI robot boosts restaurant profits up to 3X, logging 200k hours in live kitchens alongside human employees for brands like White Castle.

Flippy carries $4B/year in U.S. revenue potential on its own. And that’s just one piece of Miso’s platform.

Big-name brands like Jersey Mike’s and Cinnabon just became customers. Industry powerhouse Ecolab already invested. Join them as an early-stage shareholder before Miso hits their $2.5M raise goal for June
