Article Icon 1New Murder Charge Against Manassas Mom

A Prince William County grand jury indicted Manassas resident LaToya Crabbe on first-degree murder charges on Monday, just days after prosecutors dismissed second-degree murder charges against her.

Crabbe, a mother of three, is accused of killing her husband in their home last fall. She said she was acting in self-defense after he lunged at her with a knife following threatening text messages.

Prosecutors argue that Crabbe’s actions were premeditated and allege that, after the shooting, she deleted Ring camera video footage taken inside the home. Her lawyer denied that accusation.

Crabbe spent four months behind bars on the earlier charge while prosecutors reviewed evidence in the case. She was released on bond on Feb. 21. “My children are suffering for me being here, trying to prove my innocence, but it’s a long process,” Crabbe told reporters earlier this year.

Crabbe is expected to be released on pre-trial supervision.

Article Icon 1Windy Weather Alert

March is forecast to come in like a lion in parts of Virginia today.

A powerful storm is set to move into the Commonwealth from the south, bringing strong winds and up to an inch of rain. The system may generate tornadoes and is expected to be most severe in Southern and Southeastern Virginia.

A Wind Advisory went into effect yesterday west of the Blue Ridge and will remain in place until afternoon. Forecasters said that eastern portions of Charlotte and Halifax counties are under an Enhanced Risk from the system.

The storm is expected to move through Northern Virginia after lunchtime. Wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour could snap tree limbs or bring down power lines. However, springlike temperatures are expected to return by the end of the day.

Quality medical care is a cornerstone of Virginia, and several hospitals across the state earned a spot on Newsweek’s latest list of the 250 best hospitals in the U.S.

UVA University Hospital in Charlottesville occupies the highest spot on the list, coming in at No. 49.

Newsweek ranks Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church at No. 61 and VCU Medical Center in Richmond at No. 72. All three facilities performed “above average” on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Infection Prevention measures.

In total, 12 hospitals in Virginia made the list.
