Four teenagers are in custody after a shooting that killed three people in Spotsylvania County on Tuesday evening. Police described the incident as “an illegal gun sale/robbery.”

Two of the people who were killed were also teenagers from Spotsylvania County. The name of the third man who died, a 20-year-old, was not immediately released.

The violence occurred before officers arrived and found three victims dead at the scene. “I heard it and I saw bullets going everywhere, they were kind of going at each other,” one witness reported.

Three other people were critically injured in the shooting. Police stated that they have all suspects in custody, and there is no further threat to the community.

A bipartisan House of Delegates emergency committee addressing federal spending cuts met in Alexandria to hear from local leaders about the costs and impacts of those reductions.

What we’re facing here is far worse than COVID,” the chair of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors told the panel. “We will get no federal support with this. In fact, it is federal actions that are causing these challenges.”

Northern Virginia is home to about half of the 2,314 federal employees laid off statewide so far this year. That number does not include discontinued federal contractors, who may be filing for unemployment using different systems.

The emergency legislative committee is expected to hold future meetings in Hampton Roads, Southwest Virginia, and Richmond.

Article Icon 1Justice for Suspended Student

A Virginia Beach judge said it was “appalling” that St. John the Apostle Catholic School suspended a sixth grader last year because the boy waited until after taking a test to report that a classmate had brought a bullet to class.

The boy’s mother, Rachel Wigand, said she filed the suit seeking only $81 because she wanted to hold the school accountable for suspending her child, not to make money from the incident.

The sixth grader was suspended for the same amount of time as the child who brought the bullet to school. Wigand indicated her son may move to a different school next year.
