Article Icon 1 Statewide GOP Candidates Attend Rally

Three Republican candidates for statewide office attended a rally together for the first time on Tuesday night.

Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, who is running for governor, joined with radio host John Reid, who is running for lieutenant governor, and state Attorney General Jason Miyares, who is seeking reelection.

Each spoke before making a brief joint appearance on stage at the end of the two-hour event in Vienna. A previously scheduled rally was canceled in May amid calls for Reid to exit the lieutenant governor’s race.

Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin hosted the rally and voiced strong support for all three nominees. “We’ve demonstrated how to win in Virginia, and we’re going to do it again this November,” he said.

Article Icon 1Antisemitism Complaint Filed Against School

The parents of an 11-year-old Jewish girl filed a complaint of antisemitism against the private Nysmith School for the Gifted in Herndon after their daughter and her two siblings were expelled.

The complaint alleges the girl faced “severe and relentless” bullying, and that the school did not intervene. The parents also cited other alleged antisemitism incidents, including the cancellation of a Holocaust survivor’s planned appearance.

The school’s headmaster rejected the allegations and said he was not yet aware of any legal action involving the school. The parents filed the complaint with the state Attorney General’s Human Rights Division.

University of Virginia swimmer Gretchen Walsh was named the 2025 Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year, winning the prestigious Honda Cup given to “the best of the best in collegiate athletics.”

A two-time Olympic gold medalist, Walsh helped boost Virginia to the 2025 NCAA women’s swimming title by winning three individual titles. She’s the first UVA athlete to win the award since Dawn Staley in 1991.

“We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments both in the pool and in the classroom, and we look forward to watching her continue to rise as she prepares for the World Championships and the 2028 Olympic Games,” an awards official said.

Walsh graduated in May and is training for the upcoming World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, where she will compete along with seven other Cavaliers.
