Article Icon 1 A State of Emergency Ahead of Helene

Hurricane Helene is not expected to cross Virginia, but it will bring heavy rain and wind to the state. Gov. Glenn Youngkin declared a state of emergency on Thursday to mobilize resources and equipment to respond to the storm.

The forecast calls for up to six inches of rain in some areas through Saturday, especially across the state’s southwest corner.

Some roads in the Lynchburg area were closed on Thursday because of flash flooding, and more rain is coming.

Emergency responders with Virginia Task Force 1 arrived in Florida on Wednesday to boost its disaster response.

The Commonwealth’s annual state fair is underway and as always, it will be hosted at the Meadow Event Park in Doswell.

Adult admission is $12, and visitors can buy unlimited ride wristbands, good for a full day, for $25.50.

This year’s fair features rides, musical performances, a circus, and more. For example, The Virginia Youth Livestock Shows sponsored by Virginia Cooperative Extension begin next week.

The fair runs through October 6.

The next installment of the Netflix series “Love is Blind” premieres on October 2. This version of the show features people in the greater D.C. area, including many with ties to Virginia.

One man is a quantum physicist who attended Longwood University and George Mason. Another attended high school in Alexandria before going into the family art business. Several others live and work in Northern Virginia.

The premise of the show is to bring single people together for conversations without them being able to see each other’s appearance. If a conversation goes well, the couples may decide to get engaged and take a trip together for a “honeymoon” in Mexico.

Several of the couples that formed during the show’s first six installments are still together.
