Article Icon 1Reid Vows to Stay in Race

John Reid, the only Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, said he would “not back down” or withdraw from the race.

On Friday, Gov. Glenn Youngkin called Reid and asked him to drop out after political operatives found a social media page with explicit images they believed may have been connected to Reid, a former radio talk show host.

Reid denied ownership of the account and condemned the incident asanother coordinated assassination attempt against me to force the first openly gay candidate off of a Virginia statewide ticket. It’s shameful.

Reid stated that he would have more to say after consulting with his lawyers and voters across the state.

The 50-year-old Holland was preparing for the weekend Air Power Over Hampton Roads Airshow when the accident happened.

The world of aviation has truly lost a legend, a hero,” Base Commander Colonel Matthew Altman said in a statement. The air show went on as a way to honor Holland.

Federal aviation officials are investigating the crash.

Officials have said that cuts to the National Park Service (NPS) may impact Virginia’s tourism experience. At least 63 of the 1,000 NPS employees fired this year were based in Virginia.

Two categories that got hit the hardest across the service were the people who staff the visitor centers … and the ranger-led programs,” the former superintendent of Shenandoah National Park said.

At least 40 of the fired employees were in the Chesapeake Bay region, including scientists, maintenance workers, and park rangers.

The NPS ranked the Commonwealth No. 5 in the U.S. in 2023 for visitor spending, jobs supported, and economic output.
