Good Morning! On this day in 1865, cavalry under Union forces initiated the Battle of Hatcher’s Run in Dinwiddie County in an attempt to force the Confederate army to abandon Petersburg. The attack didn’t break through, but it forced the Confederates to extend their lines.
Virginians can bet on this week’s Super Bowl, but were not legally allowed to place wagers on James Madison football during the NCAA playoffs. That could change if the Dukes can make it back to the tournament.
Lawmakers recently proposed a bill that would legalize betting on in-state college sports teams. The measure, which is pending before the House General Laws Committee, would allow for three types of wagers: moneylines, point spreads, and game totals.
