Article Icon 1School Settles Discrimination Suit

The Nysmith School in Herndon agreed to change its policies, provide more robust antisemitism training to its employees, and issue a non-discrimination statement as part of its settlement with a family whose three children were expelled earlier this year. It will also pay nearly $150,000 to cover the family’s attorneys’ fees.

The private elementary school expelled three Jewish siblings in March after their parents complained that one of the students had been subjected to “severe and relentless” antisemitic bullying on campus.

The parents reported that their sixth-grade daughter was repeatedly harassed. “She was being called a baby-killer,” a representative said. “She was told that Jews and Israelis are all baby-killers, that they were glad about what happened on Oct. 7. Just really awful things.”

The parents filed a complaint with the state Attorney General’s Office of Civil Rights, and the office negotiated the settlement. “Combating antisemitism is a top priority for my office,” Attorney General Jason Miyares said. “Every child deserves to learn in an environment free from hate, intimidation, or fear.

Gokhan Karabulut of Virginia Beach pleaded guilty to charges of abduction, strangulation, and assault and battery against a family member.

The 39-year-old was involved in a domestic dispute in April when police arrived and found him holding a knife to someone’s throat.

A police officer shot Karabulut at the scene, and he was hospitalized, facing charges after he recovered. The victim was also treated for minor injuries. Karabulut will be sentenced in February.

Authorities seized 106 dogs following a wellness check at a home in Martinsville.

It took more than 12 hours to clear all the dogs from the home. The animals have since been farmed out to shelters around the Commonwealth.

The owners of the home were charged with 10 misdemeanor counts of inadequate care of an animal and one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty.

We do not believe that they set out with the intent to mistreat these animals,” Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis said. “This is just a perfect example of animal hoarding.

Our friends at BiOptimizers are running a massive Black Friday deal on the incredible Magnesium Breakthrough, a 7-in-1 magnesium formula with all seven different forms of magnesium. This is their biggest sale of the year, featuring the lowest prices you’ll find—and it’s available for a limited time only.

With up to 68% of Americans not getting enough magnesium from their diet—and most supplements containing only 1–2 forms—it’s no wonder so many people never experience the full benefits of this vital mineral for sleep and stress relief.

It’s designed to be easily absorbed, gentle on digestion, and comes with a 365-day money-back guarantee.
